Salman Rushdie, whose novel The Satanic Verses drew demise threats from Iran’s chief within the Eighties, was stabbed within the neck and stomach Friday by a person who rushed the stage because the writer was about to provide a lecture in western New York.

A bloodied Rushdie, 75, was flown to a hospital and underwent surgical procedure. His agent, Andrew Wylie, stated the author was on a ventilator Friday night, with a broken liver, severed nerves in his arm and a watch he was prone to lose.

Police recognized the attacker as Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey. He was arrested on the scene and was awaiting arraignment. Matar was born a decade after The Satanic Verses was printed. The motive for the assault was unclear, State Police Main Eugene Staniszewski stated.

He reportedly posted an image of former Iranian Supreme Chief Ayatollah Khomeini on his Fb web page.

Khomeini was the Iranian Supreme Chief who, in 1989, after the publication of The Satanic Verses, issued a fatwa towards Salman Rushdie.

On his social media accounts, Matar expressed viewpoints sympathetic to the reason for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC). Investigators reportedly discovered pictures of Iranian commander Qassem Solemani, who was assassinated in 2020, in a mobile phone messaging app belonging to Matar.

Matar is of Lebanese origin. Lebanon, by the way, is the house base of Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah. He was carrying a pretend license utilizing a reputation evoking that of a killed Hezbollah militant.

Conservative information shops in Iran have praised his assault.

The investigation towards Matar is being led by the New York State Police, with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chautauqua County district lawyer.
