Canberra Airport has been evacuated after gunshots had been reportedly heard within the check-in concourse.

Early reviews point out there was a single shooter who has been arrested, and no accidents have been reported.

Travellers reported on social media the airport was positioned into lockdown and there’s a heavy police presence.

ABC journalist Dan Bourchier tweeted he was sitting in a airplane on the airport tarmac, and “the captain simply advised us the AFP is doing a ‘safety sweep’ of the airport after we had been advised the airport has been evacuated.”

A spokesperson for the airport mentioned declined to remark, noting it was a “police matter in the meanwhile”.
