Pope could meet ‘pro-war’ Russian Orthodox patriarch Kirill


Pope Francis might meet Patriarch Kirill, the chief of the Russian Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan in September at a gathering of spiritual leaders, Reuters studies. Kirill has been accused by the EU of supporting the struggle in Ukraine, and solely evaded private sanctions as a result of Hungary blocked it. The assembly can be solely the second time a pope and a Russian Orthodox Church chief met because the Nice Schism in 1054.
