A New York animal sanctuary proprietor is dealing with a felony cost after officers say cows from a close-by beef farm strayed onto her property and she refused to return them to their proprietor.
Tracy Murphy, president and founder ofAsha’s Farm Sanctuary in Newfane, a small city 38 miles north of Buffalo close to Lake Ontario, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree grand larceny, the New York State Police reported.
McKee Farm proprietor Scott Gregson instructed USA TODAY that final month, two of his beef cows mysteriously escaped his pasture, which is enclosed by an electrical barb-wire fence.

Gregson, whose property is about 1/2 mile from Murphy’s animal sanctuary, stated he realized his livestock had been on the lam after receiving a telephone name from the SPCA who instructed him his cows had been on the sanctuary and had been there for about 5 days.
So Gregson, who stated he didn’t know Murphy on the time, visited her residence early final week to get his cows.

A refusal, a warrant and an arrest

A warrant was then executed for Murphy’s arrest and the cows had been returned to their proprietor.
After she was taken into custody, troopers stated, Murphy was booked into the Niagara County Jail. Throughout a courtroom arraignment afterward Tuesday, she pleaded not responsible to the felony cost.
As of Wednesday she remained free on bond, officers reported. If convicted of the crime, Murphy faces jail time.

Gregson stated after the cows had been returned the farm the place he lives together with his spouse and kids they had been taken to a safe location “for his or her and my household’s security.”
