HAMILTON — A coroner’s inquest into the dying of an Indigenous teen whose physique was discovered close to a bunch dwelling is ready to proceed at the moment in Hamilton.
The inquest inspecting the dying of Devon Freeman started Monday within the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, of which he was a member.
Jurors have heard Freeman was reported lacking from the Lynwood Charlton Centre group dwelling within the Flamborough space of Hamilton within the fall of 2017.
He was discovered lifeless close to the house in April of 2018.
The inquest is anticipated to look into systemic points that performed a job within the teen’s dying, together with public coverage and authorized points associated to Indigenous youngsters and youth within the child-welfare system.
On Monday, jurors heard from two consultants on youngster welfare on a number of the social and historic components that contribute to the overrepresentation of Indigenous youngsters within the system.
