Italy faces nationwide public transport strike on Friday 16 September



Unions name public transport strike over security of staff.

Commuters in Italy face widespread disruption on native public transport networks on Friday 16 September as a result of an eight-hour strike, studies information company ANSA.

The nationwide protest has been organised by public transport unions in response to “the violent and repeated assaults on drivers, controllers, stationmasters, ferry and vaporetto workers, registered throughout the nation in latest months”.

Describing the state of affairs as “insupportable”, unions say as that no motion has been taken, staff haven’t any alternative however to strike till new measures are launched.

The strike comes per week after rail workers in Italy went on strike to spotlight the identical subject, following a latest assault on a prepare conductor in Naples.
