A First Nation in northern Ontario is limiting well being companies to emergencies solely resulting from a scarcity of nurses.
Kashechewan First Nation says staffing at its nursing station has dropped to a few major care nurses, down from its typical 9.
Well being Director Jonathan Solomon says the neighborhood’s health-care system is in disaster, with companies like blood work, prenatal care and walk-in appointments not being provided.
Solomon says fewer nurses have been arriving on the nursing station’s scheduled rotations during the last six week as Canada’s well being system contends with a scarcity of employees pushed by pandemic-related burnout and different components.
However he notes that Kashechewan residents aren’t capable of drive elsewhere for care as a result of the neighborhood of 1,900 folks is barely accessible by airplane.
Group management is looking for a nurse recruitment plan from Indigenous Companies Canada, and a plan for the likelihood that the neighborhood might have zero nurses on the bottom quickly.
