NEW YORK (AP) — Ondrej Palat scored twice to assist the New Jersey Devils beat the New York Islanders 4-1 on Thursday evening.
Nico Hischier had a purpose and two assists, Jack Hughes additionally scored and Mackenzie Blackwood made 16 saves. The Devils gained their second straight after opening with two losses.
Anders Lee scored for New York and Ilya Sorokin made 37 saves.
Hughes opened the scoring at 1:35 of the second interval when he slipped a puck between the legs of Sorokin. Devils defenseman Damon Severson delivered an ideal stretch go that allowed Hughes to get behind the protection for his first purpose of the season.
Palat doubled the benefit at 8:09 together with his second purpose in two video games. He linked once more with 4:32 left within the third.
New Jersey signed Palat to five-year, $30 million deal after the Czech ahead helped Tampa Bay win two Stanley Cup championships.
Lee stuffed dwelling the puck from the highest of the crease to chop the Devils’ result in 3-1 with 3:16 to go along with Sorokin off for an additional attacker.
Hischier had an empty-net purpose within the final minute.
