Outstanding Indian enterprise chief Cyrus Mistry dies at 54


NEW DELHI (AP) — Cyrus Mistry, an Indian-born Irish businessman and former chairman of Indian conglomerate Tata Sons, died in an accident on Sunday after his automotive crashed right into a highway divider in western India, police mentioned. He was 54.

The crash occurred on a river bridge in Maharashtra state’s Palghar district close to Mumbai, police officer Prakash Gaekwad advised reporters.

Mistry served as Tata Sons chairman for 5 years till he was eliminated by the board in October 2016. He challenged the board’s choice, however India’s high courtroom upheld his dismissal.

Politicians and enterprise leaders reacted with shock to information of Mistry’s dying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Mistry was a promising enterprise chief who believed in India’s financial prowess. “His passing away is a giant loss to the world of commerce and business,” he mentioned.

“I used to be satisfied he was destined for greatness,“ mentioned Anand Mahindra, an Indian enterprise chief. ”If life had different plans for him, so be it, however life itself shouldn’t have been snatched away from him.”

Mistry owned an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons by way of his firm, Cyrus Investments Pvt. Ltd. In 2018, his web value was roughly $10 billion.

Mistry joined the household building firm, Shapoorji Pallonji and Co. Ltd., as managing director in 1991.

He’s survived by his spouse and two sons.
