A Russian soldier’s journal: ‘I cannot take part on this insanity.’ The revealing 141-page journal of Russian paratrooper Pavel Filatyev, who spent greater than a month preventing in Ukraine, describes a military in disarray, The Publish’s Mary Ilyushina experiences from Riga, Latvia. Filatyev went to Ukraine “after his poorly geared up unit was ordered to march from its base in Crimea for what commanders referred to as a routine train,” she writes.
His journal, which is “essentially the most detailed day-by-day account so far of the assaults on Kherson and Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine as seen by way of the eyes of a Russian soldier,” particulars “commanders clueless and terrified, gear outdated and rusty, troops pillaging occupied areas in quest of meals due to a scarcity of provisions, morale plummeting because the marketing campaign stalled.”
“They merely determined to bathe Ukraine with our corpses on this warfare,” he wrote.
