Twitter Inc. mentioned on Monday funds made to a whistleblower didn’t breach any phrases of its US$44 billion buyout by Elon Musk, after the world’s richest man cited the transfer as another excuse to scrap the deal.
In a letter to Twitter on Friday, attorneys for Musk mentioned Twitter’s failure to hunt his consent earlier than paying US$7.75 million to whistleblower Peiter Zatko and his attorneys violated the merger settlement, which restricts when Twitter may make such funds.
Zatko, who was fired by Twitter in January as the corporate’s safety head, final month accused the social media agency of falsely claiming it had a stable safety plan and making deceptive statements about its defences in opposition to hackers and spam accounts.

The whistleblower will meet the U.S. Senate Judiciary committee on Sept. 13 to debate the allegations. Individually, Twitter is holding a particular assembly on Tuesday for shareholders to vote on the merger.
Musk, who additionally runs the electrical automobile firm Tesla Inc., has accused Twitter of misrepresenting the prevalence of spam or bot accounts on its platform and has sought to terminate the deal citing these causes.
A trial in Delaware Chancery Courtroom is scheduled to start on Oct. 17.
