A brush fireplace that broke out Friday within the San Bernardino Mountains had consumed no less than 50 acres by late afternoon.

The Manzanita fireplace was burning close to Freeway 330 and Forest Street 1N09, about 9 miles from Operating Springs, San Bernardino Nationwide Forest officers mentioned.
