Don Mattingly to go away Marlins after 2022 season

Don Mattingly will now not be the Miami Marlins supervisor after the 2022 season.

Marlins chairman and principal proprietor Bruce Sherman made the announcement Sunday with 10 video games remaining on the schedule.

“We’re lucky to have had Don Mattingly main our group on the sphere during the last seven years,” Sherman stated in an announcement. “He has represented the Marlins, our gamers, our followers, and the South Florida group with unmatched dignity and pleasure. Over the course of our latest conversations with Don, we each agreed to not pursue a brand new contract for the 2023 season and that the time is correct for a brand new voice to guide our clubhouse.”

Mattingly stated it was a mutual determination amongst him, Sherman and normal supervisor Kim Ng. He stated they agreed the group wanted a “new voice.”

“I’m proud and honored to have served as supervisor of the Marlins for the previous seven years and have loved my experiences and relationships I’ve developed throughout the group. I stay up for spending time with my household in Evansville, and to any future endeavors,” he added.

Mattingly took over the group firstly of the 2016 season. He’s on the finish of his seventh season. He’s the longesttenured supervisor within the franchise’s historical past.

He was 437-583 as a supervisor and took the group to the playoffs within the 2020 coronavirus-impacted season. Miami is 63-89 this season with Sandy Alcantara as one of the leaders for the Nationwide League Cy Younger award.
