Greater than 100 Haitian migrants have been discovered on an uninhabited
island close to Puerto Rico, U.S. Customs and Border Safety stated on
Tuesday, as a gang blockade of a gasoline terminal has brought on a
humanitarian disaster in Haiti, Development experiences citing Reuters.
The group of migrants contains 63 females, three of whom are
pregnant, and 41 males, who have been discovered on Mona Isla by park rangers
working for the Puerto Rico Division of Atmosphere and Pure
Sources, U.S. Customs and Border Safety spokesman Jeffrey
Quinones stated on Tuesday.
“What we all know preliminarily is that they have been transported in
only one vessel,” Quinones stated in a phone interview.
Smugglers often use Mona Island as a drop-off level for
vessels leaving the Dominican Republic, and infrequently inform migrants
that they’ve reached Puerto Rico although Mona island is
uninhabited and inhospitable, he stated.
Haiti has requested worldwide army help to
confront gangs which might be blocking the Varreux gasoline terminal,
triggering shortages of meals, gasoline and diesel.
