Macron calls Russian referendums in Ukraine a ‘travesty’

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday denounced pro-Russian separatists’ plans for referendums in Ukraine, saying any vote for annexation can be legally meaningless.

“I feel what Russia introduced is a travesty,” he informed reporters on the UN Common Meeting, calling it a “new provocation” that “can have no consequence on our personal place.”

“The very concept of organizing referendums in areas witnessing struggle, that are struggling bombings, is the peak of cynicism,” Macron stated.

Areas held by Moscow on Tuesday introduced that they might maintain referendums within the coming days on annexation by Russia, a step that the US has been predicting and warning towards.
