Mallorca safety companies intercept six migrant boats in 24 hours



The Guardia Civil and Maritime Rescue service rescued 20 extra North African migrants close to the island of Cabrera from a small boat this afternoon- the sixth to have arrived within the Balearics since Monday.

The rescue of this newest group, carried out at round 12.05 hours, concerned an air unit of the Guardia Civil and its maritime service, in addition to a Maritime Rescue vessel, the Central Authorities Delegation stated.

Since Monday afternoon a complete of six boats with 82 individuals on board have been intercepted by the safety companies.

The primary group of 15 immigrants arrived at round 7.10pm on Monday at Es Caló d’Es Mort seashore in Formentera.

Later there was one other rescue at 10.40pm, after the SIVE (Built-in System of Exterior Surveillance) sighted a ship at sea, south of Cabrera, with 20 extra individuals of North African origin on board.

At round 11.15 p.m., one other 12 individuals of North African origin had been rescued on land, on the seashore of Es Cupinar, Formentera.

Shortly afterwards, at 11.30pm, the Guardia Civil Maritime Service rescued one other 21 individuals in a vessel south of Cabrera, after their boat was additionally noticed by the SIVE.

The fifth rescue was at 4.20 a.m., when 14 extra migrants had been picked up south of Cabrera.
Up to now this 12 months 42 small boats have reached the Balearic coast with 726 migrants on board.
