The Policía Native in Salobreña rescued an uncommon seabird on Saturday on La Guardia  Seashore.

Beachgoers had come throughout a razorbill auk, or widespread auk. These birds usually stay out to sea so it’s uncommon to sea them near the coast except there’s a storm, once they take shelter on land.

The police collected it and handed it over to Reserva Pure Concertada Charca de Suárez who in turned handed it on to the Centro de Recuperación de Especies Amenazadas (CREA). Sadly, the creature died just a few hours later.

The Supervisor of the Charca de Suárez, José Larios, defined that the established protocol is that aquatic birds discovered must be taken to their installations owing to the specialists readily available there till a consultant from CREA arrives to gather it.

Citing Wikipedia: “the razorbill, razor-billed auk or lesser auk are closest dwelling relative of the extinct nice auk. They’re primarily black with a white underside. This agile chicken, which is able to each flight and diving, has a predominantly aquatic life-style and solely involves land as a way to breed.”
