It’s been eight months for the reason that Senate inquiry into media variety, chaired by Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Younger, handed down its report calling for a judicial inquiry into media variety, possession and regulation. Neither the earlier Coalition authorities nor the present Labor one has formally responded to its findings, and Hanson-Younger is demanding motion. 

“The [inquiry] was intensive, thorough and made vital suggestions that shouldn’t be ignored. The proof confirmed Australia’s present media legal guidelines aren’t match for objective and wish pressing reform,” she informed Crikey. 

“I urge [Communications] Minister [Michelle] Rowland to supply a complete response. It’s clear we want media reform. Why is the federal government so afraid of a royal fee into Australia’s media? Is it that they’re fearful about what the Murdoch press will say, and what the retribution will probably be? In that case, that is precisely why we want one.”
