Suspect shot by police now charged in assault in Downtown Eastside

The suspect, 52-year-old John Corey McKay, was shot by police throughout the incident and stays in hospital with accidents.

Const. Tania Visintin, a spokesperson for the Vancouver police, mentioned police shot and injured McKay after an officer was attacked with a weapon close to the Hastings Avenue tent metropolis.

She mentioned two officers have been sitting of their patrol automobile close to East Hastings and Columbia Avenue at about 8 a.m. when a person carrying a weapon approached the police automobile and allegedly struck an officer by means of an open window.

The person was pursued and pictures have been fired by a VPD officer.

The officer sustained a critical head damage and was taken to the hospital for therapy.

A second VPD officer was later assaulted by a bystander, after he arrived to help following the police-involved capturing.
