VIDEO: Expat eyewitness account of Estepona’s newest wildfire on Spain’s Costa del Sol


A Canadian expat described the shock of watching flames from the seaside in Estepona as she loved a household time out on Tuesday.

The fireplace broke out on the outskirts of Estepona on Tuesday afternoon, the newest in a spate of blazes throughout Spain in what has quick grow to be the worst summer time for fires this century.

“We have been on the seaside and seen that there was a small fireplace within the distance,” mentioned Gail Corbeill in an interview with the Olive Press.

“A couple of minutes later we left the seaside to return residence and noticed the fireplace on the opposite facet of the highway,” added Gail.

Gail and her household recorded footage of the flames on their cellphones.

“We weren’t capable of see the buildings affected because the smoke was in all places,” defined the 67-year-old.  

The Estepona wildfire compelled the evacuation of 300 individuals – but it surely was declared ‘managed’ at 11:10 pm on Tuesday, July 26.

The evacuated residents have since been allowed to return residence.

The fireplace was initially declared at 5.45 pm final Tuesday, 26 July and the Costa del Sol city’s emergency plan was activated.
